Considerations

  • It takes up to two years to obtain a Service Dog due to the temperament selectiveness and extensive training

  • Service Dogs are EXPENSIVE.

  • There is a lot of misinformation out there.

  • Traveling with a Service Dog is an involved process.

Please ask yourself before going through the process of obtaining a Service Dog:

  • Are you disabled?

  • If owner training, does this dog want to work?

  • Am I as educated as I possibly can be about Service Dogs and the rights that come with it?

  • Am I ready for the commitment of a dog, including the financial and time commitment?

  • Will I be able to keep this dog healthy and up-to-date on training?

  • Do I mind having a dog with me 24/7 for the next 10+ years?

  • Can I handle thinking about both my needs and my dog’s needs?

  • Will the dog make my disability worse with the added stress?

  • Are my friends and family prepared for me to bring a dog with me everywhere?

  • Am I prepared for people to approach me in public because I have a dog?

  • Am I ready to educate the public about Service Dogs?

  • Is this realistic for your situation?
