ADA.gov
The ADA protects all disabled people’s rights. It is federal law and applies in all 50 states. Here are some of the basics with regards to Service Dogs.
Service Dogs are allowing the general public.
This doesn't include operating rooms or the burn unit in hospitals because that is a health code violation.
Businesses can only ask two questions:
Is this a Service Dog?
What tasks does the dog perform?
Businesses cannot
Ask for medical records because that is private medical information.
Ask for a certificate of ID for your dog (those are scams)
Charge additional fees
Require task demonstration
Deny access, isolate, segregate, or treat the person less favorable
A Service Dog is not required to be labeled as a Service Dog.
The training makes the dog, not the vest.
Dogs are not required to be leashed if it interferes with a dog tasking, but they must be under control vis verbal commands.
Tasks that fall under this category could be crowd control, retrievals, or fainting response.
Businesses can ask you to leave if your dog is misbehaving or poses a threat to others.
