Go for a walk… or maybe not
Let’s talk about self-care. When I think about self-care I think of taking a bath, going for a walk, reading a book, taking a nap, going to the movies, painting nails, or putting on a face mask. But that isn’t self-care for me.
Taking a bath isn’t relaxing for me. Going for a walk is overstimulating. Reading a book gives me a headache. Taking a nap throws my routine off. Going to the movies is loud. Painting my nails smells. Putting on a face mask makes me feel dirty.
Self-care for me is putting on my headphones even if it is socially “inappropriate”. It’s rocking back and forth at the dinner table. It’s staying in my room all day to recover from the previous one. It’s eating my safe foods. It’s having grace with myself. These are just some examples of caring for myself.
What I’m trying to get at is that you should take care of yourself in whatever way that looks. How do you take care of yourself? What refills your energy?
